Osiyo, or “hello” in Cherokee. Welcome to Vinita, hometown to two men elected to serve as Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Thomas M. Buffington (1899-1903) and Chuck Hoskin, Jr. (2019-present). These men were elected to lead the largest Native American tribe in the United States. Located in the north end of the Cherokee Reservation, Vinita has long been a very important part of Cherokee Nation government, economy, health, and culture.
